Laser Dentistry
Recent dental advancements have revolutionized the way we perform procedures. Laser dentistry is just one of the many cutting-edge technologies in the dental field.
Laser dentistry allows us to give you more comfortable and accurate treatments. This tool can be used for a number of different procedures but we mostly use it for sculpting and removing soft tissues.
Ever since the FDA announced it was safe to use on individuals in 1990, it has been part of our day-to-day treatments and procedures. Other advantages of laser dentistry include less bleeding and anxiety among patients, less damage to existing tissue, and a faster healing time.

How can laser dentistry help me?
Laser dentistry is extremely multifaceted and is a key player in our everyday procedures. It is most commonly used for cosmetic dentistry but is just as efficient for preventative treatments.
At Petri Dental, we generally utilize lasers for the following:
- Reshaping soft tissue – Dental lasers can uncover more of your natural tooth, also known as crown lengthening, shape soft tissue to enhance the look of your smile, and take off soft tissue folds from dentures.
- Frenectomy – Lasers have the ability to untie children and adult’s tongues to help their chewing and speaking.
How are laser procedures performed?
There are several kinds of dental lasers, each using a certain wavelength of light and serving its own unique purpose. We use carbon dioxide and diode lasers. These lasers address issues associated with soft tissue. After we take X-ray images and perform a complete oral exam, we will determine which laser is most appropriate for your situation.
We provide glasses to shield your eyes from the brightness of the laser. Once you have the appropriate gear on, we use the laser to treat soft tissue, whiten teeth, or to secure a filling.
